He wants to "give him back his life."

He wants to erase the tattoo on his father's arm that constantly reminds him of the life that was taken from his when he was imprisoned in a concentration camp. He wants to protect him from the memories and the pains of his past. He says, "I would pad the rest of his days/ wrap him in gauze and velvet/ absorb the shocks and treat the wounds."
