Drives serve to activate responses that are aimed at reducing the drive, thereby returning the body to a more normal state called Homeostasis. Homeostasis is the term psychologists and physiologists use to refer to the body's
state of balance. Equilibrium means the same thing but is not the term used by
psychologists.
