The sum of two numbers is 49 . the smaller number is 17 less than the larger number. what are the numbers?

Let the larger number be x
So the smaller number will be x-17
Since the sum of the two numbers is 49
x-17+x=49
2x-17=49
2x=49+17
2x=66
x=33
The larger number is 33 while the smaller number is 33-17=16
