The length of the rectangle exceeds its width by 17 inches, and the area is 18 square inches. what are the length and width of the rectangle?

L * W = A 

W(W+17)=18 

w^2+17w=18 

w^2+17w - 18 = 0 

(w+18)(w-1) 

w = 1 

Length = 18 
Width = 1
