Well,

First, a few definitions.

Focus: The point where an earthquake begins

Epicenter: The point on the surface of the earth directly above an earthquake's focus

From these definitions, we can conclude that the epicenter, or the point on the surface of the earth that corresponds with the focus, will experience the most violent shock, because is it the closest point on the surface of the earth to the earthquake's focus.
