The sum of two numbers is 74. One number is 6 times less than 4 times the second number. Find the two numbers.

I'll get you started. Let x and y be the two numbers. we have:                      x  +  y  =  74      (sum is 74)                       x  =  4y  - 6        (the number x is six less than 4 times y) Now that you have the equations use an algebraic techniques to eliminate one variable thereby solving for the other. If you need more help add a comment to your question.
