The smaller of two numbers is 1/4 of the larger number. Their difference is 36. Find the numbers

Small number=S
Large number= L
Write the equations:
S=L/4
L-S=36
Plug the first one in the second one:
L-L/4=36
3L/4=36
L=48
Then S=L/4=48/4=12
