25 + R = 40 -25 -25 ___________ R = 40 - 25 R = 15
You have to isolate your variable (the letter in a mathematical equation) by combining similar terms (all real numbers should go together and all variables should go with like variables [R’s go together]). And remover that what you do to one side you have to do to the other.
