Galileo supported heliocentrism or the belief that the sun was the center of the solar system and the planets revolved around it. The church was strongly against this belief claiming the geocentric view was correct or that the earth was te center of the solar system. He defended the heliocentric view strongly and the church viewed it as him reinterpreting the bible and was sentenced to house arrest for the rest of his life.
